About the Artist

My name is David Martinez - I’m a painter and illustrator who works in the traditional genres of painting (figures, portraits, and landscapes) while also exploring pop culture characters through traditional mediums. I received a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and I have furthered my artistic training by studying from various online resources including the Watts Atelier and Proko. An increasing interest in painting materials has led me to create my own handmade oil and watercolor paints which I almost exclusively use. My work seeks to explore ideas of personal struggle and self-mastery by using myself as well as popular characters as surrogates for the viewer.
